Don Vu, an industry veteran with a wealth of experience in data and artificial intelligence (AI) leadership, will head a newly formed AI and data team.
An Accomplished Career in Data and AI
Don Vu joins New York Life from Northwestern Mutual, where he served as Chief Data Officer since early 2020, overseeing data and AI strategy across the company’s insurance, wealth management, field distribution, and managed investments businesses. During his tenure at Northwestern Mutual, Vu played a pivotal role in the digital transformation of the company’s underwriting business, incorporating AI and automation.
Prior to his role at Northwestern Mutual, Don served as Vice President of Data and Analytics at WeWork, where he led the central data and analytics organization. His work extended to Major League Baseball (MLB), where he held several leadership positions, ultimately leading MLB’s consolidated analytics organization.
A Track Record of Success
At MLB, Don Vu was the driving force behind leveraging quantitative data, qualitative research, analytics platforms, and deep analysis to help steer the league’s multi-billion-dollar business. During his tenure, he also spearheaded Data Analytics for MLB Advanced Media and BAMTech, which was later acquired by Disney.
Vu has demonstrated a consistent ability to lead teams and initiatives aimed at harnessing the power of data and AI in various industries. His remarkable journey of success is marked by a rich tapestry of experiences across different sectors.

Don Vu is not only a seasoned professional in data and AI but also a founding member of Stand with Asian Americans, a national organization of business leaders formed in 2021. Through this initiative, he has been instrumental in raising substantial funds for non-profit organizations and leading nationwide efforts to drive change.
Academic and Advisory Contributions
Apart from his corporate achievements, Don Vu is involved in academic and advisory roles. He currently serves as an Advisory Board Member at the UVA McIntire School of Commerce, contributing his expertise in data and analytics. Additionally, he is a Founding Member and Co-Lead for Stand with Asian Americans, a national organization that has raised substantial funds for non-profit organizations and led national initiatives for change within the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community.
