Yelp has relaunched its AI assistant as the centrepiece of its 2026 Spring Product Release, expanding it from a search aid into a tool that can answer questions, surface recommendations, and complete bookings across every category on the platform, all within a single conversation.

First introduced in 2024 to help users search for services, Yelp Assistant now sits in a dedicated tab at the centre of the app's bottom navigation bar on iOS and Android, a placement the company chose deliberately to drive adoption.

The assistant is powered by hundreds of millions of reviews, photos, and business details from the Yelp community, which the company says grounds responses in verified user-generated content and reduces the risk of incorrect answers.

"We would really like consumers to recognize Yelp as a place where they can ask questions and get answers, not just that, but also complete the action," Akhil Kuduvalli Ramesh, SVP of Product at Yelp, told TechCrunch. "That's Yelp reconceiving from a review platform to an answers and action platform."

According to the company, the assistant handles restaurant reservations through Yelp Guest Manager, food delivery orders through DoorDash and Grubhub, and service professional quotes across more than 450 categories. Three new integrations expand its booking reach further.

Vagaro allows users to book beauty, wellness, and fitness appointments directly from the app on iOS. Zocdoc enables healthcare provider booking on iOS for the first time on Yelp. Calendly allows service professionals to connect their schedules so consumers can book consultations without leaving the conversation.

"Booking a doctor's appointment should be just as easy as booking dinner," said Oliver Kharraz, founder and CEO of Zocdoc. "Integrating Zocdoc's healthcare access infrastructure into Yelp is another step toward making access to in-network care simple and immediate."

One limitation is worth noting. All actions currently redirect users to a partner app or page to complete the transaction rather than executing within the chat window. Kuduvalli acknowledged this directly, saying that redirections are how Yelp is structured now but may not remain that way.

The release also enhances Menu Vision, which now overlays dish photos onto restaurant menus when viewed through a phone camera, adding popularity badges and one-tap access to item reviews.

A new AI-powered personalisation model reshapes the home feed on iOS, and natural language search within a business's media gallery allows users to find specific photos using conversational queries rather than keywords.
