Epiq Service Cloud Introduces Gen AI Text Summarization for Legal Workflows

"This tool enhances the efficiency of legal workflows, ensuring precision and reliability in handling complex documentation."- Eric Crawley

Epiq, a leading global provider of technology-enabled services to the legal sector and corporate entities, today unveiled its latest innovation: Gen AI Text Summarization within the Epiq Service Cloud. Developed using the Azure OpenAI Service, this new feature is designed to adapt and scale across various legal processes, including eDiscovery, investigations, deposition summaries, mediations, and trials.

Epiq’s introduction of Gen AI Text Summarization represents a significant advancement in legal technology, offering tools that are both powerful and accessible to legal professionals without the need for specialized AI expertise. “Our commitment at Epiq is to democratize advanced technology for the legal field, making it not only accessible but also highly practical for everyday use,” said Eric Crawley, Senior Vice President of Legal Solutions at Epiq. “This tool enhances the efficiency of legal workflows, ensuring precision and reliability in handling complex documentation”, added Eric.

The feature streamlines the document review process, aiding legal teams in early case assessments and enriching data analysis. It enables professionals to quickly identify and articulate critical information from extensive text records, thus enhancing the preparation for depositions and trials. Users can benefit from flexible summary options—ranging from concise points to detailed outlines—and the capability to pin and export summaries with essential metadata in CSV format.

Strategic Rollout and Future AI Developments

Initially available within Epiq Discovery—a leading SaaS solution in the Epiq Service Cloud that supports comprehensive matter lifecycle management—Gen AI Text Summarization will first launch in the United States. A full deployment is scheduled for the third quarter of the year.

Looking ahead, Epiq plans to further expand its AI offerings. Upcoming features include Prioritized Classification, which will categorize documents by relevance as reviews progress, and an AI Chatbot, enabling users to interact with case data through conversational queries that generate substantiated responses, thereby streamlining fact-finding processes.
