Interactive Brokers Just Opened Its AI Integration to Any Tool Built on the MCP Standard

Interactive Brokers announced on July 28, 2026 that clients can now connect their accounts to any AI tool built on the Model Context Protocol standard, a quiet but meaningful expansion that removes the restriction previously limiting connectivity to the certified marketplaces for ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok.

The change does not alter what clients can do. The AI integration allows users to analyze portfolios, research investments, monitor risk, and draft trade instructions in natural language, and the human-in-the-middle design that IBKR disclosed on its Q2 2026 earnings call remains unchanged. 

The AI analyzes, drafts, and recommends. The client reviews and converts each instruction to an order before it is submitted. No trade executes without explicit human approval, according to the press release.

What changes is which AI tools can perform that analysis. Previously, clients were limited to the ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok certified connectors. 

The July 28 expansion makes Claude Code, Cursor, Perplexity, and Windsurf available immediately, with Gemini support described as coming soon, and any future MCP-compatible tool can be connected through IBKR's public connector URL without requiring a separate certification process.

"Interactive Brokers has long offered open APIs that let clients connect their accounts to the tools and systems they choose," said Milan Galik, CEO of Interactive Brokers. "Supporting AI tools built on the Model Context Protocol is a natural extension of that philosophy. It gives clients the flexibility to use the AI applications they prefer to research investments, manage their portfolios, and interact with their IBKR accounts."

The MCP connectivity expansion sits alongside five AI tools Interactive Brokers already operates natively within its own platforms, according to the press release.

AI Screeners allow clients to describe what they are looking for in natural language and receive a ranked list from more than 70,000 global stocks. Investment Themes lets clients search by theme and view connected companies, industries, and trends. 

Connections surfaces related companies, sector ETFs, derivatives, and event contracts for any entered stock in a single view. Ask IBKR allows natural language portfolio questions like, "How concentrated am I in tech?," grounded in actual account data rather than general market information. 

AI News Summaries filter market news to the specific stocks and sectors in a client's portfolio and watch lists, with important articles flagged automatically, according to the press release.

The combination positions Interactive Brokers at both ends of the agentic investing spectrum: native AI tools for clients who want AI-powered analysis inside IBKR's own environment, and open MCP connectivity for clients who want to bring their preferred external AI tools into the same workflow. 

The MCP expansion works across Client Portal, IBKR Desktop, IBKR GlobalTrader, IBKR Mobile, and Trader Workstation.
