Qualderm Partners With Parakeet Health to Expand AI-Powered Patient Access

The national dermatology network will use Parakeet Health’s agentic AI to reconnect patients and fill unused appointment capacity across nearly 160 practices.

Qualderm, a national physician-led dermatology network supporting nearly 160 practices across 17 states, has partnered with healthcare AI company Parakeet Health to use agentic AI for appointment scheduling, cancellation recovery and patient follow-up.

Under the partnership, Parakeet’s platform will evaluate provider schedules and practice-level requirements to identify available appointment capacity. It will then reconnect patients who canceled visits, missed appointments or are overdue for follow-up care.

The companies announced the partnership on September 8 as dermatology practices face growing demand for care and pressure on clinical and administrative staffing. The deployment is designed to help Qualderm make greater use of appointment capacity while reconnecting patients with care.

AI Targets Unused Dermatology Capacity

Qualderm’s network spans medical and surgical dermatology, skin cancer care, cosmetics and plastic surgery. Its size means scheduling can involve different providers, services and practice-level requirements.

Parakeet’s platform handles inbound and outbound patient communications across voice, SMS, fax and email. Its capabilities include appointment scheduling, referral conversion, cancellation recovery and patient recall.

The company said its system can account for provider- and practice-level scheduling rules when determining appropriate appointment options. That allows the AI to work across different workflows rather than treating every available calendar slot the same way.

The approach reflects a broader push to apply AI to healthcare access and administrative workflows. Assort Health’s agentic AI platform, for example, has focused on automating patient interactions including scheduling and referrals.

Jung Park, CEO and Co-founder of Parakeet Health, said specialty care requires AI systems to account for different services, providers, scheduling rules and patient needs.

Parakeet also said its platform is designed to operate within existing electronic health record and practice management workflows while supporting deployments across large networks.

Healthcare AI Moves Into Patient Access

The Qualderm partnership comes as healthcare organizations increasingly apply AI to operational functions beyond clinical care. Summa Health’s use of AI across referrals, patient access and other operations reflects the expansion of specialized AI into healthcare workflows.

Parakeet reported 38% more filled appointments in head-to-head pilots with two legacy vendors, along with a 6x increase in outbound conversion. The company also reported 42% more calls answered and a 60% reduction in call-center operating expenses. These figures are company-reported results.

The company uses a pay-for-performance model, charging based on outcomes such as answering patient questions, rescheduling appointments and canceling appointments. Parakeet said its pricing is tied to results rather than software seats.

Blake Area, Chief Marketing and Digital Officer at Qualderm, said reconnecting patients who cancel or miss visits and filling newly available appointments could help more patients receive timely care while making better use of existing clinical capacity.

The partnership announcement cited a recent analysis showing patients in 15 major metropolitan areas waited an average of 36.5 days for a dermatology appointment, a 6% increase from 2022.

For Qualderm, the deployment puts agentic AI into the operational workflow connecting patient demand with available specialty-care capacity.
