What's new for Orbitrap at ASMS 2026?

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., a Massachusetts based multinational biotechnology product development and clinical research company, announced the launch of new Orbitrap mass spectrometers, AI software, and automated testing tools at the American Society for Mass Spectrometry (ASMS) Conference on 1 June, 2026.

The company said that their flagship Orbitrap technology is aimed at solving complex sampling, expansion of datasets and pressure for faster delivery of definite findings issues, by combining advanced high-resolution analysis technology with all-in-one laboratory solutions.

“Orbitrap technology has long set the standard for breakthrough discovery, and customers now want that same confidence across applied scientific markets,” said Ronald Tabaksblat, president, chromatography and mass spectrometry, Thermo Fisher Scientific.

In the Orbitrap Suite

The company has released three new Thermo Scientific Orbitrap platforms at ASMS 2026.

The Thermo Scientific Orbitrap Tribrid Apex Mass Spectrometer combines three mass analyzers, an infrared laser fragmentation option, and Direct Mass Technology Mode in a single platform.

Supporting software includes MSAID for AI-driven proteomics, Proteinaceous for bioinformatics analysis, Proteoform Studio, and Proteome Discoverer 3.

The Thermo Scientific Orbitrap Excedion Mass Spectrometer is designed for drug development applications, including drug metabolism, oligonucleotide, and peptide analysis. According to the company, its enhanced dynamic range can detect three to five times more compounds in complex samples.

The company also said that labs, for the first time, can upgrade to the Orbitrap Excedion Pro MS without replacing their instrument, boosting testing power while saving money and avoiding downtime.

Thermo Fisher also launched an all-in-one testing package for drug development labs, including Vanquish Amplify UHPLC Systems, SurePac RP MDi Columns, SMART Digest OligoSelect Kit and BioPharma Finder 5.5 Software.

The Thermo Scientific Orbitrap Exploris GC S Mass Spectrometer is a high-resolution testing platform that updates how food and environmental labs scan for toxic pollutants, delivering highly sensitive, compliant results for reliable trace testing.

The company said that these innovations simplify complex testing to deliver deeper insights, confident drug development decisions, and faster, regulatory-ready contaminant reporting.

The company has also said that it will be showcasing more products like Thermo Scientific TSQ Certis Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer, Thermo Scientific Orbitrap Exploris EFOX Mass Detector and Thermo Scientific TSQ Altis Plus EFOX Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer, in the future.
