Ameriprise's AI Strategy Has a $1 Billion Foundation Behind It

Ameriprise Financial announced on July 27, 2026 that it is accelerating AI integration across its advisor and client experience. This coincides with the firm's Q2 2026 earnings call, where CEO Jim Cracchiolo framed the investment as the result of years of deliberate groundwork rather than a response to industry pressure.

"We anticipated these shifts and invested accordingly, building an interconnected technology ecosystem that brings together data, systems and automation," Cracchiolo said. "That foundation allows us to innovate faster and bring new capabilities to advisors in ways that fit seamlessly into how they work."

The announcement is grounded in a specific architectural claim: that Ameriprise's AI capability rests on a unified data foundation built over multiple years, and that the foundation is the actual competitive advantage.

Approximately $1 billion in annual technology spending funds that foundation, covering AI capabilities, platform enhancements, and supporting infrastructure. The firm also incorporates external AI models alongside its proprietary capabilities, selecting rather than building everything in-house, according to the press release.
