Adobe's AI-First ARR Is Up 150%. Firefly Grew 40% in One Quarter. The Stock Still Fell.

Revenue of $6.76 billion, up 13% year over year, beat estimates. Non-GAAP EPS of $6.13, up 15%, beat the consensus of $6.07.

Adobe's AI metrics in Q3 FY2026 are the strongest the company has reported, according to the company. Revenue of $6.76 billion, up 13% year over year, beat estimates. Non-GAAP EPS of $6.13, up 15%, beat the consensus of $6.07. The company raised full-year guidance. And the stock still fell 2.14% after hours.

The market reaction reflects a specific set of concerns that sit alongside the AI performance data. Remaining performance obligations grew 8% year over year, the first single-digit RPO growth since early fiscal 2023, which CFO Steve Day attributed to the company's deliberate freemium strategy and normal seasonal patterns rather than any change in underlying business momentum.

Q4 RPO and CRPO typically step up in Adobe's seasonally strong enterprise quarter, and management said the pattern this year is consistent with prior years. The freemium strategy itself, prioritizing user acquisition before monetization conversion, is compressing near-term net new ARR even as it builds the long-term user funnel.

AI-first ending ARR exceeded $650 million in Q3, up more than 150% year over year. Firefly ending ARR grew 40% quarter over quarter. Acrobat AI Assistant MAU doubled quarter over quarter.

Creative freemium monthly active users crossed 100 million, up more than 70% year over year. Monthly active users across all Adobe businesses crossed 1 billion, growing more than 20% year over year. Each of Adobe Experience Manager, Adobe GenStudio, and Adobe Experience Platform delivered ending ARR growth of more than 20% year over year individually.

The Agentic Software Thesis and the Chakravarthy Mandate

The most strategically significant disclosure on the call was Anil Chakravarthy's framing of where Adobe is going. On his first earnings call as incoming CEO, Chakravarthy described agentic software as the next major transition for the software industry, directly analogous to the shift from on-premise to SaaS.

He identified four specific things customers are looking for in agentic software: product architecture that supports any interface alongside existing Adobe functionality; model flexibility so customers can access the best model for each task; enterprise data and context so outputs are grounded and free of hallucination; and value realization support to make the full investment in agentic software commercially productive.

"I am excited by the opportunity to drive Adobe's growth and leadership across creativity, productivity, and customer experiences in the era of agentic software," Chakravarthy said.

The day before the earnings call, Adobe announced the Adobe Productivity Agent, a significant expansion of Acrobat's capabilities. Acrobat can now convert complex documents into visually rich interactive reports, summary slides, and audio podcast formats.

New knowledge base and analyzer features allow teams to query across thousands of documents simultaneously to surface structured insights. Acrobat now integrates with ChatGPT, Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and WhatsApp. Acrobat AI Assistant's MAU doubled quarter over quarter.

CX Enterprise Coworker, the specialized AI agent that autonomously executes complex marketing workflows including analytics, content creation, and journey orchestration, went generally available in June 2026 and has already reached more than 1,700 customers and early adopters.

Adobe Brand Visibility, combining Semrush AI optimization with Adobe's LLM Optimizer, doubled its paying customer base quarter over quarter. Named enterprise deployments from Q3 included Disney Imagineering integrating Firefly Foundry into its theme park design toolkit and a partnership with Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and Humane to bring Firefly and Express to the country's 27 million citizens and residents.

The Freemium Trade-Off and the Financial Foundation

The freemium strategy is the operating tension running through the quarter. Adobe is directing traffic toward the free tier to acquire the next generation of creative users, creative freemium MAU growing more than 70% year over year to over 100 million, and then using engagement signals, credit consumption data, and usage intensity to determine when and how to convert those users into ARR.

Firefly credit consumption accelerated quarter over quarter across Creative Cloud and the Firefly app. Firefly ending ARR growing 40% QoQ shows the conversion is happening. The question management declined to answer precisely is at what pace.

Adobe reported cash flow from operations of $2.52 billion in Q3, a Q3 record, according to the company. Ending cash and short-term investments were $5.64 billion. The company repurchased approximately 9.5 million shares during the quarter and has approximately $24.55 billion remaining under its April 2026 authorization.

The Topaz Labs acquisition, which adds state-of-the-art AI enhancement models for imaging and video, is expected to close in Q4 subject to regulatory approvals. Full-year FY2026 guidance was raised to total revenue of $26.576-$26.626 billion and non-GAAP EPS of $24.45-$24.50.

Q4 guidance calls for revenue of $6.8-$6.85 billion and non-GAAP EPS of $6.30-$6.35, with a non-GAAP operating margin of approximately 44%. A foreign exchange headwind in Q4 is the only disclosed external factor in the guidance.
