WTW has announced the appointment of Spike Lipkin as Chief AI Officer and Gordon Wintrob as Head of AI Acceleration, the global advisory and broking firm announced on April 27, 2026. Both appointments are effective immediately and both report directly to CEO Carl Hess.

The appointments follow WTW's acquisition of Newfront in January 2026. Lipkin co-founded Newfront and served as its CEO. Wintrob co-founded the company and served as its CTO.

Their elevation into global AI leadership roles at WTW signals the company's intent to deploy the AI capabilities Newfront built at scale across an organisation that operates in 140 countries and markets.

"They'll help to further embed AI across WTW to enable faster insights and smarter decisions," said Carl Hess, WTW CEO. "This allows our colleagues to focus on developing new, innovative solutions to accelerate performance, enhance efficiency and deliver better client outcomes."

Lipkin's mandate as Chief AI Officer is to shape how AI advances WTW's long-term competitive positioning, embedding AI into the company's strategy, operating model, and culture. His reporting line directly to the CEO reflects the scope of that mandate.

Wintrob's mandate as Head of AI Acceleration is operational, expanding enterprise-wide use of AI tools and enabling WTW's employees to integrate AI into their daily workflows.

Strategy without adoption produces vision documents. Adoption without strategy produces fragmented tools. The two-role structure is designed to advance both simultaneously, according to the press release.

Newfront was known within the insurance industry for its AI-first approach to broking, using technology to automate and personalise processes that traditional brokers handled manually.

By placing Lipkin and Wintrob at the top of its AI organisation, WTW is betting that the model Newfront built for a smaller, more agile operation can be scaled across a $27.1 billion global enterprise.

For the insurance and risk advisory industry, the move adds to a growing list of major institutions elevating AI leadership to the C-suite.
