MarqVision Raises $48M to Fight Brand Abuse

MarqVision helps brands identify and remove counterfeits automatically with AI-powered brand protection.

Founded by Harvard Law grad Mark Lee, MarqVision has raised $48 million in its Series B funding round. Led by Peak XV Partners (formerly Sequoia Capital India & SEA) with participation from Salesforce Ventures, HSG, Coral Capital, Michael Seibel of Y Combinator, and previous backers Altos Ventures and Atinum Investment, total funding to date has reached around $90 million. With these funds, they want to redefine how brands protect themselves in the digital era and accelerate the global ambitions and expansion of their AI-powered brand control platform.

The Market Size

Fakes and knockoffs aren’t just something you find hidden away in back-alley markets anymore. Today, everyday shoppers are bumping into counterfeits and copycats while scrolling through their favourite apps or browsing big-name e-commerce sites. Social feeds, online marketplaces, and digital storefronts have turned into high-speed highways for brand impersonators and pirates.

It’s an issue that’s gone from being a niche legal headache to a widespread business risk, one that can hit a company’s reputation and bottom line in ways many never imagined. Experts say counterfeit goods now make up more than $3 trillion in annual sales, accounting for about 8% of all global commerce.

Mark Lee, a Harvard Law graduate, encountered the scale of the problem while studying trademarks at Harvard. It became clear to him that conventional legal tools alone couldn’t keep up with the speed and scope of brand abuse proliferating online.

Seeing an opportunity, Lee co-founded MarqVision in 2021 with a vision to combine deep legal knowledge with the latest advances in artificial intelligence. His goal was to offer something beyond just basic takedown notices or alerts.

Early on, the team committed to going beyond simple takedown requests or notifications. Instead, MarqVision would build a managed service, a platform that not only detects counterfeit products across 1,500+ digital channels in over 118 countries but also helps companies enforce their rights and calculate real business impact.

“We’ve reached a moment where AI-powered brand control is no longer optional; it’s the foundation for sustainable growth,” said Mark Lee, Founder and CEO of MarqVision.

At the core of MarqVision’s offering are sophisticated AI technologies like machine learning and image recognition. These tools automatically identify potential issues in real time, scanning vast amounts of data and images. But the AI works hand in hand with a global team of legal experts who ensure swift takedowns, specialized litigation for repeat offenders, and comprehensive reporting so brands know exactly what’s happening with their intellectual property.

Gap Between Legal and AI

What really sets MarqVision apart is how it blends two worlds that don’t usually mix: cutting-edge AI technology and deep legal expertise. Mark Lee and his team knew that for brands to actually see results, they needed more than just spotty enforcement or vague metrics, they needed a reliable way to act and clear data to prove the impact.

That’s why MarqVision doesn’t just cater to IP lawyers. Today, over 60% of its users are business leaders in marketing, e-commerce, and revenue teams.

MarqVision is a managed service that empowers brands to move fast and confidently against infringement, helping them recover lost sales and safeguard their reputation on a global scale. From luxury fashion to pharmaceuticals, gaming to software, the platform has earned the trust of over 350 companies worldwide.

MarqVision’s brand is also evolving alongside its technology. What started as a company focused mainly on battling counterfeit products has evolved into an AI-driven managed service for “trust and safety.” This means MarqVision now helps brands stay in control across every possible contact point, whether online, offline, physical stores, or on digital channels.

Mark Lee points out that today’s brand protection is less about just ticking a compliance box and more about driving real business growth. Companies using MarqVision often see their sales grow by 5 to 10 percent because they’re able to stop revenue leaks from fakes and unauthorized sellers.
