Overroute Launches AI Freight Platform After Yearlong J.B. Hunt Deployment

Overroute publicly launched its AI freight execution platform on July 21, 2026, emerging from a year of co-design with J.B. Hunt Transport Services that gave the company something most freight technology companies do not have at launch. 

Its AI agents were already running inside one of the most complex carrier networks in North America before the company announced its public availability, according to the press release.

Overroute's agents are in active use across all of J.B. Hunt's business units, working on millions of loads. That deployment record is the most commercially significant detail in the announcement as the company is not describing a pilot or a test environment. 

The agents are live in production, handling the coordination work that sits behind every freight load: reading live data, surfacing exceptions before they escalate, and supporting operators in managing the customer communications that keep shipments moving.

"We operate one of the most complex freight networks in North America, and that gives us a unique opportunity to take emerging technology and apply it at real scale," said Nick Hobbs, Chief Operating Officer of J.B. Hunt. "Overroute is an example of a broader strategy where we're using AI as a force multiplier within our expansive network to reduce friction and improve how freight gets executed every day."

The design decision that distinguishes Overroute from traditional freight technology is where it operates. Rather than requiring carriers to adopt a new system, the platform is built to work directly within the tools and workflows operators already rely on, reading live data from existing systems rather than requiring a separate interface or a data migration, according to the press release.

That design resulted from the co-design process with J.B. Hunt, which Overroute's CEO Alex Reed described as the foundation of what the platform can actually do. 

"Our agents have been tested against the real complexity of enterprise logistics, including the exceptions, the edge cases, the change management, the human judgment calls," Reed said. "We represent a new category in freight technology: Agentic AI built alongside J.B. Hunt operators, inside real freight workflows, with real data, real users and measurable outcomes."

Overroute emerged from J.B. Hunt's collaboration with UP.Labs, an incubator initiative announced in October 2024 focused on building startups to address structural challenges across freight transportation. 

Overroute is the first startup launched from that program. The company is now working with additional carriers and enterprise logistics operators as it prepares for its next commercial deployments, with a product roadmap that extends beyond coordination automation toward broader asset optimization.
