Brown & Brown CEO Powell Brown said on the company's Q3 2026 earnings call on October 27, 2026 that the insurance broker deployed Anthropic's Claude to more than 6,000 teammates in 45 days.

He said more than 90% are actively using the platform and the next group of teammates is being onboarded.

The rollout builds on earlier steps. Brown said the company "moved quickly to deploy incremental AI capabilities" in addition to "all teammates having access to Copilot over the past year."

About 90 days before the call, Brown & Brown announced "a partnership with McKinsey & Company, Accenture, and Anthropic" to strengthen the business "with an AI-first mindset."

"AI is not a disruptor to our model, but rather is an accelerator," Brown said in his prepared remarks.

Where Brown & Brown Is Using AI

Brown said AI is now used "throughout the insurance placement process across most of the company," covering "prospecting, submissions, claims analysis, analytics, and data extraction."

The company has built a governance and cybersecurity structure so that AI use cases and agents operate within clear protocols, Brown said, describing the effort as sitting inside a framework anchored in strong cybersecurity and governance.

Brown & Brown has also set up a value management office to measure investments and returns by initiative.

Brown also discussed COMPASS, which the company introduced the previous week. He described it as "a connected, intelligent ecosystem" that combines AI-powered capabilities with proprietary data in the Retail segment to support "risk management decisions and recommendations."

He said COMPASS-powered tools are expected to reach thousands of teammates by year-end, with more solutions planned through 2027.

In announcing COMPASS on October 22, Brown & Brown said customers using its Health Plan Intelligence tools experienced an average five-year cost trend below 4%, compared with an industry and market norm of approximately 7% to 9%.

The company also said COMPASS analytics helped a Fortune 50 customer restructure its insurance program, cutting premium spending by 65%.

Funding AI One Year at a Time

Brown said the company is taking a different approach to how it budgets for AI. Brown & Brown "will not announce a multi-year, multi-hundred-million-dollar program," he said. Instead, it plans to invest in "one-year measurable tranches" tied to expected returns.

Jefferies analyst Andrew Andersen noted that technology costs had risen in the quarter and asked whether total technology spending would increase further in 2027, and when the benefits would offset it.

"We are going to lay out a one-year spend, 2027 spend, and projected benefits in January," Brown said, adding that the plan is being finalized.

Responding to Bank of America analyst Josh Shanker on unit volumes and organic growth, Brown said that if you "take out all AI and frontier spending and related spending from GDP," the economy looks different. He estimated the effect at "at least 100, if not 150 basis points," describing it as his understanding rather than company data.

"As we continue our AI journey, we will enhance the effectiveness and productivity of our teammates," Brown said, adding that the work is intended to improve customer outcomes and drive organic growth and margin improvement.

Brown & Brown reported Q3 2026 revenue of $1.7 billion, up 7.4% year over year, with organic growth of 1.2%, or 1.5% including organic contingents. The adjusted EBITDAC margin was 34.6%, down 200 basis points, and adjusted EPS was $1.07, up 1.9%. Retail organic growth was 2.6%, while Specialty Distribution organic revenue fell 0.8%.
