Docusign Turns Every Contract Into a System That Acts on Itself

"Docusign is the only platform with the full context of your agreement history and relationships."

Docusign announced Iris, its AI engine for agreements, at its Momentum conference in New York on May 21, 2026, alongside a new AI assistant, a set of automated agents, and two new vertical platform expansions that push its Intelligent Agreement Management system significantly deeper into sales, HR, and legal workflows.

The core problem Docusign is solving has not changed since its earlier IAM announcement. Contracts being static records scattered across emails, PDFs, and disconnected systems, requiring manual coordination to move forward.

What is new at Momentum is the scope of the solution: Iris now powers a conversational AI assistant that allows teams to ask questions about agreements, surface key terms and obligations, and take action in natural language, alongside agents that automate the monitoring and execution steps that currently require human follow-up.

"Every business runs on agreements, but until now, they've been static records of work," said Allan Thygesen, CEO of Docusign. "Docusign is the only platform with the full context of your agreement history and relationships, and that's what allows us to turn agreements into something more powerful: systems that can guide business decisions and move work forward."

Three agent capabilities launched at Momentum. The first accelerates review, agents can check agreements against company standards, suggest edits, and automatically request the right approvals in minutes rather than the days or weeks manual review typically requires.

The second keeps work moving autonomously, agents monitor contracts in the background, flag risks, track obligations, and trigger next steps without requiring manual follow-up at each stage.

The third is Agent Studio, a workspace where teams can build and deploy custom agents tailored to how they manage deals, renewals, and approvals. The platform connects via MCP with Anthropic Claude, Gemini, and OpenAI ChatGPT, allowing teams to manage agreements using natural language within the tools they already use, according to the press release..

Deep integrations cover Coupa, Microsoft Copilot, Salesforce, SAP, and Slack. Legal AI partnerships with Harvey, Legora, and CoCounsel by Thomson Reuters bring legal research and document analysis directly into agreement workflows.

IAM for HR claims to address the full employee agreement lifecycle, from hiring through role changes, by capturing key information automatically, reducing repetitive tasks, and keeping HCM systems in sync. Mobile I-9 verification simplifies compliance, and integrations with major HCM platforms give HR teams faster onboarding from day one.

IAM for Sales embeds the full agreement lifecycle into CRM systems including HubSpot, Microsoft Dynamics 365, and Salesforce.

Sales teams can generate agreements, route approvals, track negotiations, and manage renewals without leaving their existing tools. Iris-powered insights surface key terms, obligations, and renewal dates, giving teams the visibility to close deals faster.

A Deloitte report cited by Docusign found organizations using AI-driven workflows with end-to-end agreement platforms see nearly 30% higher ROI than those without.

Docusign currently serves approximately 40,000 global IAM customers and more than one billion users across 180 countries.
