Workday Launches an AI Learning Platform Built on Sana's Technology

"Checking the box isn't the same as building a skill."
Workday announced the general availability of Workday Learning, powered by Workday’s AI-powered experience platform Sana, on July 22, 2026. It is a learning management solution that sits directly on top of Workday's existing HR and skills data rather than operating as a separate system that requires manual synchronization with the HR platform.
Most enterprise learning management systems operate as separate products connected to HR data through integrations that require ongoing maintenance, according to the press release.
Workday Learning uses the same employee and skills data that already governs HR operations at Workday customers, which means when an employee changes roles or locations, their learning paths update automatically. Administrators do not need to rebuild or reassign programs manually. The training layer and the HR layer are the same system.
"Checking the box isn't the same as building a skill," said Joel Hellermark, Chief AI Officer at Workday. "With a personal AI tutor, interactive quizzes, and learning tailored to each employee's role and skills, Workday Learning, powered by Sana, turns required training into engaging experiences employees can apply in their day-to-day work."
The employee experience is built around an AI tutor that operates across three functions simultaneously, according to the press release.
It responds to questions about content, recommends learning paths calibrated to the employee's specific role and skills profile, and allows natural language search for specific policy information, so an employee can ask what the company's expense policy says about hotel stays rather than navigating a document library to find the answer.
The platform also converts existing documents and presentations into interactive courses, reducing the manual work typically required to build training materials.
The platform's conversion tools, combined with multi-language translation and multi-user collaboration support, are intended to compress that process substantially.
Some organizations using these features have reported content creation time reductions of up to 98%, according to Workday's announcement, though the company did not specify which organizations or what baseline they compared against.
Administrators gain tools for managing learning assignments and campaigns, with learning paths that update automatically as employee data changes, completing the loop between HR operations and training delivery that most enterprise learning systems require manual effort to maintain.
Workday Learning, powered by Sana, is available globally to Workday HCM customers. For organizations not using Workday HCM or Workday Financial Management, Sana Learn is available as a standalone product.
