LPL Financial Appoints Jonathan Lewis as Chief Technology and Information Officer

LPL Financial announced on August 24 that Jonathan Lewis has joined the firm as its new Chief Technology and Information Officer, bringing more than two decades of financial services technology leadership from Wells Fargo and J.P. Morgan.

Lewis was most recently Head of Digital and Trading Technology for Wealth Management at Wells Fargo, a role that spanned large-scale technology platform management and AI-driven engineering capability development specifically designed to support adviser and client workflows. 

Before Wells Fargo, he served as Head of Asset Management Technology at J.P. Morgan. The combination of wealth management technology at Wells Fargo and asset management technology at J.P. Morgan gives him direct prior experience in the two most closely related environments to LPL's independent adviser business.

His mandate at LPL covers architecture, engineering, infrastructure, and development, with advancing AI investments and platform modernization named explicitly alongside the ongoing development of LPL Latitude, the firm's adviser-facing technology platform.

Greg Gates, who previously held the title of Chief Product and Technology Officer, assumed the expanded title of Group Managing Director, Chief Product and Technology Officer on the same announcement.

That structure gives LPL a dedicated technology execution leader focused on engineering delivery while Gates maintains strategic oversight of both product and technology direction, a separation that reflects the increasing complexity of managing AI investment and platform delivery simultaneously.

LPL Financial is one of the largest independent broker-dealers in the United States by number of advisers. The appointment signals the firm's intention to accelerate the pace of technology delivery across its adviser platform as competition for independent adviser relationships intensifies.
