MUFG Appoints Its First Chief Data and AI Officer

"Prasad brings a strong track record of building scalable, well-governed data platforms that support both innovation and resilience."
MUFG announced on June 9, 2026 that Prasad Uddaraju has joined the company as its first Chief Data and Artificial Intelligence Officer.
MUFG is one of the largest global financial groups by assets, operating across capital markets, commercial and investment banking, and corporate functions at global scale, according to the press release.
The decision to appoint a named executive with explicit responsibility for data and AI as unified strategic capabilities shows a governance choice that more large financial institutions are making as AI moves from pilot to production.
Uddaraju brings a career built specifically for that transition. His most recent role was Managing Director of Data and Analytics at JPMorgan Chase, where he led the modernization of large and complex data environments and advanced cloud-native platforms and AI-enabled data solutions across one of the most technically sophisticated financial institutions in the world.
Before JPMorgan Chase, he served as SVP and Chief Data Officer at First Republic Bank, where he built enterprise data governance capabilities from the ground up, modernized data platforms, and worked closely with regulators.
When JPMorgan Chase acquired First Republic in 2023, Uddaraju played a key role in integrating First Republic's data and technology platforms into JPMorgan Chase's infrastructure, one of the most complex data integration challenges in recent US banking history.
That experience, building governance in a regulated environment, then executing a high-pressure data integration under regulatory scrutiny, is the precise skill set that a global bank needs in an executive responsible for deploying AI at enterprise scale, according to the press release.
Financial institutions face governance requirements alongside AI adoption. Models must provide explainable outputs, data lineage must be traceable, and decision-making processes must be auditable to satisfy regulatory and compliance standards.
Earlier in his career, Uddaraju served as Global Head of Markets Data Services at Citi Markets, and held senior data and technology roles at Lehman Brothers (now Barclays), Freddie Mac, and Infosys, covering regulatory reporting, enterprise data platforms, and advanced analytics across global markets.
"Prasad brings a strong track record of building scalable, well-governed data platforms that support both innovation and resilience," said Alla Whitston, Chief Information Officer at MUFG. "His leadership across data, analytics, and technology will strengthen our ability to advance AI and data as strategic enterprise capabilities."
