Spectral AI Appoints Finance Veteran Capone as CEO

With DeepView now under FDA review, Spectral AI has promoted Vincent S. Capone to CEO to drive the company’s transition from development to commercial execution.
Spectral AI, a Dallas-based artificial intelligence company dealing in wound care diagnostics, has appointed Vincent S. Capone as Chief Executive Officer, effective February 9, 2026.
Capone, who previously served as the company's Chief Financial Officer and General Counsel, steps into the role as Spectral transitions toward commercialization of its flagship DeepView System.
The DeepView System is a non-invasive AI-driven device for assessing burn wound healing potential. The leadership change positions the company to accelerate market entry following its FDA submission in June 2025, with Dr. J. Michael DiMaio remaining as Executive Chairman.
After joining Spectral AI in March 2022 as General Counsel, he advanced to CFO in February 2024 and joined the Office of the Chairman in October 2024, where he shared day-to-day operational leadership with Dr. DiMaio.
This hands-on experience is meant to guide the DeepView System through regulatory review and into hospital burn units, where accurate wound assessment remains a persistent clinical challenge.
"Vince brings a unique set of leadership skills to his new role, combining a background in law, accounting, finance and operations management supported by a strong vision for the Company's future," said Dr. J. Michael DiMaio, Chairman of the Board.
DiMaio highlighted Capone's integral contributions to clinical development and commercialization efforts, noting his ability to earn respect across the board, leadership team, and partners.
Commercial Milestones
Capone's external track record further boosts his credentials. He began his career at KPMG LLP, then rose to partner at Reed Smith LLP practicing corporate and securities law.
Most recently, he served as President of a New York-based private equity fund focused on global life sciences and technology investments, experience directly relevant to scaling Spectral AI's AI diagnostics platform amid investor scrutiny.
"I am honored to assume the role of CEO as the Company evolves towards commercialization," Capone stated. "Our FDA submission of the DeepView System in June 2025 marked a major milestone for Spectral AI and a critical step forward to providing this innovative and potentially transformative technology."
The DeepView System represents Spectral AI's core value proposition, using multispectral imaging and machine learning to quantify burn wound healing probability before treatment, enabling clinicians to prioritize grafts, surgeries, and resources more effectively.
Unlike subjective visual assessments, DeepView delivers objective, real-time data to reduce overtreatment, complications, and healthcare costs in a market where burn care exceeds $2.6 billion annually.
How it does this is by using a physical device to capture images. The device then sends multiple wavelengths of light and detects the light reflected back by the tissue.
By applying artificial intelligence algorithms to the images, Spectral AI’s system predicts whether tissue will heal from a burn or not. The burn validation study assessed images from 164 patients, including 49 children, treated for burns in the U.S.
The trial compared Deepview to the clinical judgment of burn physicians. At the pixel-wise level, sensitivities for Deepview and physicians were 81.9% and 38.8%, respectively.
Deepview also delivered better dice scores, a method for comparing the similarity of two samples. The AI-enabled system performed at 68.5%, compared with 39.2% for physicians. Spectral AI said the results represented “improved pixel-wise evaluation between predicated and true segmented wound areas.”
Spectral AI's recognition as one of TIME's World's Top HealthTech Companies 2025 already places them alongside leaders in AI-driven medical diagnostics. The transition comes as the company prepares for potential FDA clearance, partnerships with burn centers, and expansion into broader wound care applications.
Spectral AI will also be joining the American Burn Association (ABA) to promote practical, life-saving burn prevention strategies for workplaces of all types during this year’s National Burn Awareness Week.
In support of this annual event, Spectral AI will host a series of internal activities to engage employees, including messages from leadership, personal stories from biomedical engineers highlighting the importance of innovation in burn care, and interactive burn education.
