SAP Reorganizes AI Leadership, Creates Dedicated Business AI Platform and Autonomous Suite

SAP has reorganized its product leadership, creating dedicated Business AI Platform and Autonomous Suite organizations as it accelerates its enterprise AI strategy.
SAP has reorganized its product and engineering leadership, creating dedicated organizations for its Business AI Platform and Autonomous Suite as the company moves to align its AI strategy more closely with product development and customer delivery.
The management changes, which took effect on July 1, place Business AI Platform, data, analytics, and chief technology functions under SAP Extended Board Member Philipp Herzig, while SAP Extended Board Member Manoj Swaminathan will lead a newly formed Autonomous Suite organization spanning finance, supply chain, human resources, customer experience, and Cloud ERP Private, according to ERP Today.
The restructuring follows SAP's broader push around Business AI, Joule, Business Data Cloud, and the Autonomous Enterprise strategy introduced at Sapphire 2026, where the company outlined plans to embed AI agents more deeply across enterprise applications.
Business AI Platform and Autonomous Suite Gain Dedicated Leadership
Under the new structure, Herzig will oversee Business AI Platform, Data and Analytics, Business Transformation Management, Platform and AI, portions of the former Business Technology Platform (BTP) organization, and CTO functions. The move consolidates many of the technologies underpinning SAP's AI architecture into a single leadership organization.
The company also confirmed that Michael Ameling, Chief Product Officer for SAP BTP and an SAP Extended Board member, will leave SAP as part of the transition.
Swaminathan's new Autonomous Suite organization combines several of SAP's largest business application portfolios, including Finance and Spend Management, Supply Chain Management, Human Capital Management, Customer Experience Management, and Cloud ERP Private.
The appointment expands Swaminathan's role in executing SAP's autonomous enterprise strategy. The company's vision for AI-driven enterprise software, including the role of autonomous business processes, has also been discussed by Swaminathan in a recent conversation with AIM Media House.
According to SAP's Extended Board information, both Herzig and Swaminathan will report directly to CEO Christian Klein during the transition period.
Wider Product Organization Changes Support AI Strategy
The leadership changes extend beyond product development. SAP is moving its Global Customer Support Organization and Global Security and Cloud Compliance teams from the Customer Value Group into Product and Engineering, while Product Experience will continue reporting to Muhammad Alam during the transition, according to SAPinsider.
The company is also establishing a dedicated Industry AI unit under Dominic Metzger within its Strategy and Operations organization. Separately, Partner Ecosystem Success will move into the Customer Value Group under Executive Board Member Thomas Saueressig, while Business AI Platform, Joule, and Autonomous Suite marketing teams will become part of SAP's Global Marketing organization.
The product restructuring follows an earlier commercial reorganization that placed customer success activities under Saueressig's leadership. It also comes after Alam announced he would not renew his contract when it expires in 2027, although he will remain on SAP's Executive Board through the end of his term and continue advising Klein on the company's AI strategy, according to SAPinsider.
The latest changes formalize separate leadership tracks for SAP's AI platform technologies and its business application portfolio as the company continues integrating AI capabilities across its cloud ERP offerings. They also place responsibility for the platform and application layers under dedicated executives as SAP advances its Business AI roadmap.
