Best Buy is the world's largest consumer electronics retailer, operating nearly 1,000 stores across North America and serving customers across entertainment, productivity, communications, security, and healthcare technology.

Aamer Charania holds master's degrees from MIT and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and has deployed AI across airlines, financial services, healthcare, and now retail. Before Best Buy, he led the Regional Center for Machine Learning at Capital One.

At Best Buy, he leads the applied AI organization responsible for powering next-generation customer experiences and optimizing enterprise operations. His team has deployed AI in partnership with Google Cloud, leveraging Vertex AI and Gemini to build a conversational shopping assistant that delivers personalized product recommendations and summarizes thousands of product reviews to help customers make confident purchase decisions online.

He is also the founder and president of Dallas AI, the largest nonprofit AI forum in North Texas with over 5,000 members, and holds over 10 patents. His philosophy is grounded in a simple principle that cuts through the noise of rapid model development.

"After implementing AI across airlines, technology, healthcare, financial services, and now retail, my core philosophy is simple: fall in love with the problem, not the solution. AI moves fast, and it's easy to become captivated by the latest tools and fall into the classic hammer-looking-for-a-nail trap. The leaders who create lasting value are those who stay fluent in emerging technologies but always start with the business problem to solve and choose the approach that best solves it, not the other way around," Aamer told AIM Media House.
