Hims & Hers Embedded AI Into Its Weight Loss Care Experience

On August 6, Hims & Hers announced the rollout of an AI-integrated care experience within its Hers app, initially for weight loss members, built around a design principle the company has been explicit about: AI surfaces context and history, providers make the clinical decisions.

According to the company, the platform combines AI with healthcare providers and care teams in a single interface. It retains each member's health information and uses clinical protocols developed with weight loss specialists to provide personalized responses throughout treatment. 

When a clinical decision is needed, the system brings a provider into the conversation rather than generating a recommendation independently. Healthcare providers retain decision-making authority at every point.

"This new experience on the Hers app embeds intelligence at every step of the care experience," said Mo Elshenawy, Chief Technology Officer at Hims & Hers. "It knows each woman's treatment plan, delivers support unique to her, and brings a provider into the conversation when clinical judgment is needed."

Hims & Hers said the AI experience answers questions based on a member's treatment plan, provides lifestyle guidance aligned with current medications and goals, and escalates requests requiring clinical judgment to a healthcare provider. 

A smart scale is being introduced for weight loss members at no additional cost, connecting directly to the Hers app and automatically syncing weight and progress data. 

The automatic sync eliminates the manual logging step that is one of the most common friction points in digital health programs, and the data feeds directly into the unified interface where the AI and provider can both see the member's progress over time.

"The provider is not removed from the experience, they are made more effective in it," said Dr. Jessica Shepherd, Chief Medical Officer at Hers. "AI gives us the ability to provide clinical oversight and lifestyle guidance between appointments, which is where most of a member's weight loss journey actually happens."

Hims & Hers operates a telehealth platform covering intake, provider consultations, pharmacy fulfillment, and ongoing support. The company describes the launch as the first combination of full care journey ownership with AI embedded throughout, based on publicly available information about US telehealth offerings as of July 2026.

Plans to expand to the Hims app and additional health categories were disclosed alongside the announcement without a specific timeline.
