TripGenie AI Orders Grew 400%. 60% of Its Interactions End in a Booking.

"We are seeing growing evidence that AI is becoming an integral part of the travel journey,"

TripGenie launched in July 2023 as a conversational travel planning and booking assistant. By Q2 2026, it had become one of Trip.com's primary booking channels.

Executive Chairman James Liang disclosed on the company's September 15 earnings call that AI-assisted orders through TripGenie increased approximately 400% year over year, and that nearly 60% of TripGenie interactions are now booking-related, covering hotels, flights, and attractions.

"We are seeing growing evidence that AI is becoming an integral part of the travel journey," Liang said. "Travelers are increasingly relying on AI not only for inspiration, but also to make and fulfill travel decisions."

Trip.com also rolled out fully AI-powered search across its platform in Q2, designed to interpret user intent more accurately and surface more relevant results, with early indicators showing higher platform engagement following the rollout.

CEO Jane Sun responded to a direct analyst question about agentic AI in travel with a four-stage framework for how Trip.com views AI's role across the full travel journey.

The first stage is Inspiration, where AI agents are becoming an increasingly important discovery channel as they improve at understanding preferences and generating personalized recommendations. Trip.com is expanding partnerships with leading AI platforms and applying GEO and AEO strategies to capture AI-driven traffic as it grows, according to the company.

The second stage is Search, where Trip.com's proprietary travel data becomes the competitive advantage. "This is where our proprietary travel data and supply capabilities become increasingly valuable," Sun said. "Our data covers not only hotel and flight information but also inventory, pricing, availability, policies, and other attributes needed to make and fulfill a booking."

In Q2, the company also explored agent-to-agent collaboration to capture emerging AI-driven demand. The third stage is Transaction, where Trip.com's focus is a closed-loop flow connecting real-time inventory, pricing, payment, and confirmation with minimal friction.

The fourth is Fulfillment, where AI handles service support and change management while human operational execution stays at the center.

The underlying argument across all four stages is that AI changes the discovery interface but does not eliminate the operational complexity of delivering travel. Inventory, real-time pricing, transaction infrastructure, and on-the-ground support all remain essential regardless of how a trip is discovered.

Trip.com's position is that its decade-long investment in those capabilities makes its platform more valuable in an AI era, not less.

CFO Cindy Wang confirmed the AI investment model is deliberately scoped. "Most of our work is application-oriented development and post-training refinement rather than building large-scale foundational models from scratch," Wang said. "We expect the incremental investment to remain disciplined and manageable."

Trip.com reported Q2 2026 net revenue of RMB 15.7 billion, up 6% year over year. International OTA platform revenue grew over 50%. First and business class bookings on Trip.com increased more than 70% year over year in the first half of 2026. Customized tour bookings grew 600%. Results were impacted by a one-time RMB 5.18 billion SAMR anti-monopoly penalty recognized in the quarter.
