Syneos Health Names Madhuri Raya Global Head of AI and Engineering

Syneos Health has appointed Madhuri Raya as Global Head, AI and Engineering and Technology Capability Center, as the biopharmaceutical solutions company expands its AI capabilities across clinical development and commercialization.

Syneos Health announced Raya’s appointment in a LinkedIn post on August 25. The company said she brings more than two decades of experience leading cloud-native product engineering, AI and machine learning-enabled solutions, and global engineering teams.

Raya To Scale Engineering Behind AI Strategy

In her new role, Raya will help scale the engineering capabilities supporting Syneos Health’s AI ecosystem, according to the company. Syneos Health said the appointment comes as it accelerates its AI-enabled strategy and applies technology across challenges in the life sciences industry.

The appointment follows the company’s recent expansion of its AI leadership, including its appointment of Rajneesh Patil to lead AI and innovation for clinical development. 

Raya previously held technology leadership roles at Optum, where she was Vice President of Software Engineering. Her background includes cloud-native product engineering, AI and machine learning-enabled solutions, and leadership of global engineering teams.

Syneos Health Expands AI Infrastructure

The appointment comes shortly after Syneos Health announced an expansion of its AI-powered clinical ecosystem on August 18. The company said it was embedding AI into clinical development workflows covering protocol design, feasibility planning, enrollment, site activation, monitoring and operational oversight.

The company’s expansion includes collaborations with Causaly, Databricks and Microsoft. Syneos Health said its work with Microsoft has produced more than 280 agents integrated with Microsoft 365 Copilot, while its Databricks integration is designed to provide a near real-time view of clinical operations.

Syneos Health also applies AI across commercialization, including protocol optimization, patient recruitment, study oversight, commercial strategy, customer engagement and market access. The company said its approach remains human-led, with governance and oversight for AI applications in regulated environments.

Raya’s appointment adds engineering leadership as Syneos Health continues building AI capabilities across its biopharmaceutical services and technology operations.
