How is Yum! Brands Upskilling Digital Workforce?

The corporation also said that nearly 300 employees enrolled in the latest cohort, which features three specialized learning tracks
On May 26, 2026, Louisville, Kentucky-based fast-food giant Yum! Brands released updates on its workforce upskilling initiatives, highlighting the company's push to lead the digital restaurant technology sector.
The multinational fast-food corporation has updated its technology-dedicated workforce upskilling initiatives as it aspires to continue its leadership in the Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) industry, for which it has dedicated several technological initiatives.
The corporation announced the second year of Tech Elevate, an online, six-to-nine-week upskilling program. The initiative provides nearly 300 Digital and Technology team members with the skills and tools required to deepen their technical capabilities across Byte by Yum! and other critical technologies. The training topics included in the program include AI and machine learning, various programming languages, modern web development, site reliability engineering, and recently added AI platform engineering, Byte Menu, and application programming interface (API) query languages.
“Tech Elevate reinforces Yum! Digital & Technology’s commitment to continuous learning and technical excellence,” said Pizza Hut Chief Technology & Information Officer Shiv Adhiappan.
He also noted that Tech Elevate stands apart by serving as a functional development program for software engineers and those in adjacent roles. He noted that the initiative helps employees strengthen their technical skills while fostering greater collaboration across Byte by Yum! teams and the company's global brands.
Three Tracks of Tech Elevate
The corporation also said that nearly 300 employees enrolled in the latest cohort, which features three specialized learning tracks. The first track, “AI-First Platform & Reliability Engineering,” provided hands-on experience to the employees, using agentic AI to deploy services, troubleshoot failures, and build self-healing workflows. It also helped engineers integrate emerging AI tools into their daily routines to design more resilient, scalable systems, Yum! added.
The next track, called “Foundations of Byte Menu,” explains the basic building blocks behind the Byte by Yum! digital menu system. By mastering these basics, participants learned exactly how to design and build a complete digital menu from scratch.
The last track focused on the execution, federation, and best practices of API query languages, a set of rules and protocols that enable software applications to communicate and share data. The corporation shared that this track was not limited to a single query language and provided a deep and practical understanding of a production-grade API platform, enabling engineers to design, implement, and evolve resilient, scalable, and organizational standards-aligned API query languages after completing the course.
“The AI-First Platform and Reliability Engineering course was extremely practical and immediately applicable to my day-to-day work,” said Saurabh Sundriyal, KFC U.S. senior software engineer II and engineering team lead.
Yum! Brands also said that it will continue to invest in its workforce to ensure its digital leadership in QSR. The corporation added that initiatives like Tech Elevate allow teams to sharpen the key skills needed to build top-tier technology.
