This month is designated as Mental Health Awareness Month in the United States. Mental health is a serious public health concern in the United States, impacting millions of people from all demographics. Mental health issues are common, with more than one in every five persons in the United States (57.8 million people) expected to suffer from one in 2021. Serious mental illness (SMI) impacted 5.5% of adults, totaling 14.1 million individuals.
