Sophia Genetics, MSK Explore Global Precision Oncology Hub Through AI Partnership

Sophia Genetics and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to explore the creation of a precision oncology hub that would combine cancer expertise, clinical data, and artificial intelligence tools to support personalized cancer care worldwide.

The organizations announced the agreement on June 4, outlining plans for a potential joint venture focused on expanding access to precision medicine capabilities beyond a single institution. According to the announcement, the proposed hub would combine MSK's clinical and scientific expertise with Sophia Genetics' AI and analytics platform.

The companies said details of the initiative remain under discussion. If established, Sophia Genetics would serve as the AI and analytics platform provider while MSK would contribute clinical leadership and clinical data resources.

Michael Frank, Director of Digital Health Business Development at MSK, said the collaboration is intended to bring together clinical expertise, AI technologies, and automation capabilities to support precision oncology.

Building on Existing Precision Oncology Work

The proposed partnership builds on an existing relationship between the two organizations.

Sophia Genetics and MSK have previously worked together on efforts to expand access to MSK-developed genomic testing capabilities, including the launch of MSK-IMPACT powered by the SOPHiA DDM platform.

MSK is one of the most prominent cancer centers involved in precision oncology research and genomic testing. Its MSK-IMPACT next-generation sequencing platform has been used to profile more than 150,000 tumor samples since 2014, according to the companies.

Sophia Genetics said its platform has analyzed more than 2.5 million cases since 2014. The company develops AI-driven software designed to analyze genomic and multimodal healthcare data and generate clinical insights for healthcare organizations.

Ross Muken, President of Sophia Genetics, said the organizations' previous work has focused on extending the reach of MSK's clinical intelligence and described the proposed precision medicine hub as the next stage of that effort.

According to the announcement, the organizations intend to combine MSK's clinical data assets with Sophia Genetics' AI infrastructure to support broader access to precision oncology tools regardless of where patients receive treatment.

Healthcare AI Moves Toward Clinical Deployment

The announcement comes as healthcare organizations continue expanding the use of AI in clinical research, diagnostics, and treatment planning.

Many recent healthcare AI initiatives have focused on turning large clinical datasets into decision-support tools that can help physicians identify treatment options and disease patterns.

The proposed oncology hub also reflects a broader effort among healthcare providers and technology companies to move AI systems into operational clinical environments where they can support measurable outcomes.

The companies did not announce a timeline for establishing the venture or deploying products through the proposed hub. They said discussions remain ongoing as the organizations evaluate the structure and scope of the initiative.

If completed, the collaboration would combine one of the largest oncology-focused clinical datasets with an AI platform already used by healthcare institutions worldwide, creating a framework aimed at expanding access to precision oncology expertise beyond major cancer centers.
