Asana's AI Products Are Now 25% of Net New ARR

"Customers adopting AI Studio and AI Teammates are engaging more deeply, retaining better, and expanding faster than the broader customer base."

Asana's AI products are generating revenue faster than the company predicted. AI Studio and AI Teammates drove approximately 25% of net new ARR in Q2, up from 17% in Q1 and above the 15% full-year target set in March. Asana raised that target to 20% on September 3 and disclosed the largest AI expansion deal in its history on the same call.

"Customers adopting AI Studio and AI Teammates are engaging more deeply, retaining better, and expanding faster than the broader customer base," said CEO Dan Rogers.

A Fortune 500 media company signed a three-year multi-million dollar agreement, the largest AI expansion in Asana's history, with AI products representing almost half of the total contract value. The customer was operating with a smaller workforce, which under Asana's traditional seat-based model would have resulted in a contraction.

Instead, AI Studio and AI Teammates more than offset the smaller headcount footprint, resulting in a modest overall expansion. In one creative marketing workflow, AI Teammates had already reduced content operations cycle time by 30%.

Two named enterprise deployments on the call provided the most specific AI outcome data.

Indeed, the job site, deployed AI Studio to automate project discovery and technical scoping across its analytics teams, and runs dynamic intake and triage across a 70-person creative agency operating in more than 60 countries and 28 languages.

The results: more than 1,400 hours of senior-level time reclaimed annually, lead time from raw request to active project cut by 60%, manual ticket management reduced by more than 40%, and approximately $300,000 in savings and unlocked capacity.

Indeed is also piloting AI Teammates as an autonomous brand auditor that matches localized content to global brand guidelines across dozens of languages.

Washmen, a UAE-based textile care business, deployed AI Teammates to run its customer support and returns process end to end. Four teammates handle garment value research, care plan risk review, claims history checking, and customer message drafting. A human steps in only when a teammate escalates. The result: 90% faster claim resolution, from three days to six hours.

Agentic Work Management, Asana's new product tier, launches in mid-September 2026, bringing AI Teammates with more than 30 pre-built agents, AI Studio, and Asana Dash into every paid package tier.

Dash is described as an AI Chief of Staff that knows a person's goals and priorities, surfaces decisions from meetings, emails, and chat, and recommends the right teammates for each task. All new logos, self-serve customers, and sales-led renewals will move to AWM from launch.

The pricing unit for AI consumption is "requests", chosen because it maps directly to how customers interact with the platform without requiring them to manage model selection, token optimization, or cost routing. Asana selects and optimizes the AI model behind each request.

The after-hours stock decline of 9.61% reflected investor concern about two specific financial dynamics. The shift of new AI Teammate sales from ratable recognition to consumption-based recognition, alongside changes in how AI products are packaged, creates a $1.2 million revenue timing headwind in the second half, roughly split between Q3 and Q4.

Asana was explicit that this is a timing impact only, it does not affect ARR, bookings, billings, deferred revenue, remaining performance obligations, or cash flow.

The second concern was gross margin pressure, down approximately 120 basis points from the prior quarter, driven by higher AI infrastructure and compute costs, the Stack AI acquisition carrying a lower gross margin profile, and product mix shifting toward AI.

Asana expects gross margin to be in the mid-80s exiting the year as model routing optimization and cost efficiencies continue

Asana reported Q2 FY2027 revenue of $216.4 million, up 10% year over year and above the high end of guidance. Non-GAAP operating margin reached 10%, up approximately 300 basis points year over year. Adjusted free cash flow was $42.3 million, a 20% margin.
