How is AI Transforming Clinical Development?

The appointment comes as the company expands its use of artificial intelligence across clinical research and drug development workflows.

Syneos Health has appointed Rajneesh Patil as Head of AI and Innovation, Clinical Development, the company announced on 4th August. The appointment comes as the contract research organization continues expanding its use of artificial intelligence across clinical development and commercialization.

Syneos Health is a US based biopharmaceutical solutions company that provides clinical development, commercialization and consulting services to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. According to the company, it applies artificial intelligence and machine learning throughout the drug development lifecycle, including AI-driven patient recruitment, protocol optimization, predictive analytics for trial planning and commercial launch support. 

Patil has led clinical technology and digital transformation initiatives throughout his career. Syneos Health said he has developed agentic AI solutions and holds 16 patents spanning the clinical trial lifecycle. 

In his new role, he will lead the development of AI capabilities that help sponsors improve trial execution, navigate operational complexity and accelerate the delivery of new therapies. 

Patil joins the role after more than two decades in clinical technology and analytics. Before joining Syneos Health, he held senior AI and analytics leadership positions at IQVIA, where he worked on centralized monitoring, process design and AI applications for clinical research. 

He has contributed to industry publications on artificial intelligence in clinical development and recently outlined how agentic AI can support decision making and workflow coordination across clinical trials. 

Expanding AI Across Clinical Development

The appointment follows broader AI investments by Syneos Health. Earlier this year, the company expanded its strategic AI ecosystem through partnerships with KAI Conversations, causaLens and Sageforce to strengthen commercial operations. The company said those technologies support healthcare provider engagement, causal AI for commercial decision making and AI-powered field teams for life sciences customers. 

Announcing the appointment on LinkedIn, Syneos Health said Patil's experience complements the company's ongoing AI strategy and that he will help build "a more connected and intelligent model for clinical development" as the company continues to expand AI across its clinical operatio
