McGraw Hill Acquired TeachFX to Put an AI Coach in Every Classroom

"TeachFX gives McGraw Hill a powerful new way to support educators and help them become their best professionally."

McGraw Hill acquired TeachFX on September 17, bringing an AI-native classroom coaching tool into its K-12 portfolio and entering the professional learning market it estimates at $6 billion.

According to the company, TeachFX works by analyzing classroom audio. A teacher records a session using a phone or laptop and TeachFX's proprietary AI and diarization technology, which separates and identifies different speakers within the audio, automatically processes the recording and generates feedback tied to specific instructional practices.

The feedback covers high-leverage behaviors including questioning techniques, wait time, and the degree to which students are being pressed to explain their thinking. The process produces coaching insights without requiring a human coach to observe the classroom or a teacher to complete additional documentation.

For school and district leaders, TeachFX surfaces aggregated classroom insights across multiple teachers, identifying instructional trends, flagging areas where curriculum implementation may be inconsistent, and enabling targeted coaching conversations rather than generic professional development.

"TeachFX gives McGraw Hill a powerful new way to support educators and help them become their best professionally," said Jana Thompson, Interim President of McGraw Hill's K-12 segment. "By adding scalable instructional coaching to our portfolio, we can help educators strengthen their practice, give district leaders more actionable insights, and create a stronger bridge between instructional materials and classroom impact."

TeachFX classroom feedback, the analysis generated from a recorded lesson, flows through the Model Context Protocol into Claude for Teachers, which converts it into actionable lesson plans.

For educators with access to both tools, the workflow connects audio analysis directly to instructional planning without requiring manual transfer of feedback between applications.

According to the press release, multiple independent studies also found that average academic performance improved for students of educators using TeachFX in math, ELA, and science. Teachers using the platform reported higher morale and a stronger sense of professional self-efficacy.

"TeachFX was built to help educators better understand classroom instruction and use that insight to strengthen how they interact with students, encouraging more student talk and increasing engagement and, ultimately, outcomes," said Jamie Poskin, Co-Founder and CEO of TeachFX. "Joining McGraw Hill creates an opportunity to bring that support to more teachers, schools and districts."

The acquisition completes a two-part AI strategy McGraw Hill has been building across 2026. Teachally, acquired earlier in the year, addresses the curriculum development and adaptation layer. TeachFX addresses the classroom implementation and coaching layer.

Together the two acquisitions give McGraw Hill AI tools at both the content design stage and the point of instruction, the two stages where curriculum quality most directly translates into student outcomes.
