How will San Oo impact healthcare technology?

Associated with the growth of Slack and Notion, San Oo has been appointed by Abridge to apply his technical expertise and experience to healthcare, a sector in which the company has leveraged AI to transform how clinicians care for their patients.

Healthcare enterprise AI platform Abridge has appointed San Oo, the former Senior Vice President of Engineering at Notion, as its Chief Technology Officer on May 21, 2026, in San Francisco, California.

Founded in 2018, Abridge develops AI software that converts patient-clinician conversations into structured clinical notes in real time, with integrations across electronic medical record (EMR) systems.

Associated with the growth of Slack and Notion, San Oo has been appointed by Abridge to apply his technical expertise and experience to healthcare, a sector in which the company has leveraged AI to transform how clinicians care for their patients.

The company has announced that the appointment comes at an inflection point. Abridge is planning to expand its platform’s reach, supporting more than 100 million patient conversations in 2026, while rapidly expanding capabilities across the broader healthcare ecosystem to primarily address the needs of clinicians.

“Healthcare is the next industry that needs that kind of care and platform-level rethink, and San is the rare engineering leader who's done it multiple times,” said Dr. Shiv Rao, CEO and founder of Abridge

San Oo’s demonstrated capabilities attracted Abridge to his expertise. The company highlighted San’s achievements in setting engineering goals and directions, with a strong focus on reliability, developer velocity, and agentic engineering at Notion, as well as helping Slack during the hypergrowth years that defined modern workplace collaboration. The announcement also mentioned his experience as the CTO at ShopBack and his position as a founding member of Mumbo Inc. and Astro Technology.

“I've spent my career building products and platforms that people love to use that are secure and reliable. Now I want to do the same for healthcare, where the stakes are even higher,” said Oo, Chief Technology Officer of Abridge. “Abridge already sits at the center of the most important moment in healthcare, the conversation between a clinician and a patient. The opportunity now is to extend that intelligence across the entire system.”

The company has announced that Oo will join the Abridge leadership team on stage at their first-ever keynote on June 11 in New York City, where more information about broader platform innovation will be shared.

Abridge also recently announced it is expanding its ambient AI platform for nurses across more than 250 health systems. Powered by OpenAI models, the technology captures bedside conversations and generates clinical documentation in real time, aiming to reduce administrative workload and give nurses more time for patient care.
