Workiva Launches AI Agents for Finance and Compliance. Every Output to Be Audit-Ready.

"We're staying true to what our customers have always counted on us to deliver."
Workiva announced three purpose-built AI agents and a persistent intelligence layer on July 29, 2026, positioning the launch explicitly around a single constraint that governs every product decision the company makes: finance, sustainability, risk, and compliance teams cannot afford to be wrong.
Workiva announced three AI agents and a persistent intelligence layer on July 29, 2026. The agents are built for the work that most enterprise AI tools are not designed to touch including financial close verification, peer disclosure benchmarking, and sustainability compliance since every output needs a documented source and a defensible audit trail, according to the press release.
The company said each AI-generated output is traceable to its underlying source material, with audit trails built into the reporting workflow rather than added after the fact.
"Finance, sustainability, risk, and compliance teams are moving from execution to orchestration as AI agents take on more of the work, and we're building the platform that makes that transformation possible," said Deepak Bharadwaj, Chief Product Officer at Workiva. "We're staying true to what our customers have always counted on us to deliver: accuracy, transparency, and solutions shaped by the reality and complexity of their work."
One of the agents, The Tie-Out Agent addresses one of the most time-consuming steps in the financial close, ensuring every figure in a financial report is consistent and tied back to its source.
The agent performs the cross-referencing automatically, flags discrepancies, and generates an AI-produced explanation for each variance. Teams catch errors earlier, close faster, and finish with documentation that withstands external examination.
The Benchmarking Agent brings peer intelligence inside the reporting workflow rather than keeping it separate.
It analyzes publicly filed 10-Ks and 10-Qs from the SEC to let financial reporting teams build custom peer groups, identify disclosure gaps against industry practice, and draft disclosures with citations traceable to the source filing.
The Sustainability Disclosure Agent is designed for reporting under the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) and International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) frameworks. Workiva said it drafts disclosures, performs gap assessments, and generates compliance scorecards based on those reporting standards.
Underlying all three agents is Workiva Knowledge, a persistent intelligence layer built from an organization's own data: past filings, internal policies, institutional guidance, and trusted source documentation, according to the press release.
Workiva said the knowledge base is updated with each reporting cycle to improve the relevance of future AI-generated responses.
Workiva also announced an MCP gateway allowing customers to connect external AI models while maintaining Workiva's permissions, governance, and data lineage controls.
