How will Figma's AI design agent enhance workflows?

Figma’s AI agent is a design-focused assistant that operates alongside users within the canvas and accesses the same file as the broader team.

On May 20 2026 Figma, the cloud-based digital design and collaboration tool announced the launch of its in house AI Agent. Figma’s AI Agent promises to remove the need to choose either speed or precision while designing. Figma said that their goal was to create an agent fluent in Figma and native to the way teams work.

Earlier this year, Figma opened its canvas to third-party agents bringing design system knowledge into agentic workflows. It collaborated with Anthropic and OpenAI to connect the collaborative canvas directly to coding agents like Claude Code and Open AI, using a system called the Figma MCP Server.

Figma’s AI agent is a design-focused assistant that operates alongside users within the canvas and accesses the same file as the broader team. It is optimized for editing Figma files, generating outputs based on the surrounding design context, and supporting direct manipulation workflows.

Unlike the MCP server, the agent lives directly on the canvas leaving the need for a separate setup or context switching, enabling the user to start a prompt from any design layer, parallel prompt to play out multiple ideas at once and make edits and iterate while the agent runs.

Figma’s AI Agent Beyond the Prompt

Figma said that their agent is purpose-built to help the users explore more directions, making the right choice accessible, after which the ideal output can be reached faster, naturally and efficiently than prompting it. Additionally the team can build in the same workspace, without losing context.

The AI Agent can remix styles and generate screens that use the user’s design systems, by applying simple prompts. They also claim that the agent handles automated bulk edits, design system applications, updating designs with realistic content at scale, providing the user to make precise edits in bulk and document the design system and feedback reception, organisation and application in real time.

The company is planning to expand the AI Agent’s abilities in the coming future. Figma reported a revenue of $333.4 million in the first quarter of 2026, 46% more than a year earlier.

“In the coming months, we'll focus on improving support for design systems, refining the user experience, expanding the agent's ability to search across your files, and adding ways to customize. We’re just getting started,” Figma stated in the announcement.
