Emerson Appoints Rudy Sengupta as Chief Technology and AI Officer

Emerson announced on August 4 that Rudy Sengupta will become the company's Senior Vice President, Chief Technology and AI Officer on August 15, 2026.

Sengupta came to Emerson through its acquisition of NI, a test and measurement technology company, and built his profile inside Emerson's Test and Measurement segment, where he led the evolution from hardware-centric instrumentation toward software-defined test automation and data analytics workflows. 

The integration of AI-driven capabilities into that segment was part of his remit, and the work is directly relevant to the broader mandate he is now taking on: making AI a native capability across Emerson's entire industrial portfolio rather than a feature within individual product lines.

"Rudy has been a key player in the strong performance of our Test and Measurement business, and we're excited to continue to benefit from his deep expertise in his new role," said Lal Karsanbhai, President and CEO of Emerson. "Rudy's leadership of our enterprise AI agenda and long-term technology direction will be instrumental in accelerating innovation across Emerson and positioning the Company for continued growth."

Emerson said the goal was to help customers achieve autonomous operations at scale. The platform built to deliver it is Emerson's Enterprise Operations Platform, the software stack that connects hardware, control systems, and analytics across industrial environments. Sengupta's job is to make that stack AI native.

Autonomous operations in industrial settings means AI systems that can monitor equipment, detect anomalies, adjust processes, and in some cases act without human intervention.

Emerson's customers operate in exactly those environments, and the company's competitive position depends on whether its software stack can deliver the AI-driven autonomy those customers are increasingly requiring from their technology providers.

Peter Zornio, who held the Chief Technology Officer role for part of his two decades at Emerson, will retire December 31, 2026 and support the transition through that date.
