Altruist Launched an AI Financial Planning Agent That Builds Comprehensive Plans in Minutes

"Hazel's financial planning agent allows a single advisor to do much of the work that a shop full of specialists would do."

Altruist, a tech-forward wealth management platform, launched its financial planning agent within the Hazel AI platform on September 1, less than a week after Vanguard agreed to acquire the company, bringing a tool to market that had been in development since at least June 2026 when Altruist opened a waitlist for its availability.

The agent covers six core advisory workflows: retirement planning, investment optimization, cash flow analysis, estate planning, tax strategy, and insurance and risk, according to the company.

It builds plans using client data gathered from financial documents, meeting transcripts, communications, and connected data sources, with AI handling the data collection and synthesis layer while dedicated calculation engines handle every financial computation.

Every figure in a Hazel-generated plan is calculated by a purpose-built computation system rather than generated by a language model, addressing the accuracy and auditability requirements that financial planning in a regulated advisory context demands, according to the company.

"Hazel's financial planning agent allows a single advisor to do much of the work that a shop full of specialists would do, in a fraction of the time," said Jason Wenk, founder and CEO of Altruist. "We believe this launch will fundamentally shift how advisors operate and how firm owners run their businesses."

Altruist says it operates under agreements with its AI model providers that prohibit those providers from retaining customer data or using it to train AI models.

For registered investment advisors whose fiduciary obligations extend to the security and confidentiality of client financial information, that contractual data governance layer is a prerequisite for adoption rather than a differentiating feature.

The financial planning agent is available to any registered investment advisor. That availability model expands the product's addressable market beyond Altruist's existing custody client base and positions Hazel as a standalone AI planning platform that can be evaluated independently of the custody relationship.

Pricing was not disclosed for the new agent at launch. Altruist's existing Hazel Admin AI is priced at $50 per seat per month on an annual basis, rising to $125 per seat per month with the tax planning capability launched in February 2026. Altruist said in June that the financial planning agent would be priced similarly to the tax planning capability.

The launch arrives at a commercially significant moment. Vanguard agreed to acquire Altruist for a reported $4.6 billion according to Axios, representing a nearly 2.5x step-up from the company's $1.9 billion post-money valuation in early 2025. The transaction is expected to close later in 2026.
