What is L'Oréal's AI Strategy for 2026?

L’Oréal USA CEO Alexis Perakis-Valat detailed the company’s AI roadmap, spanning consumer tools, internal functions, and workforce integration.

L’Oréal USA’s CEO, Alexis Perakis-Valat, shared his strategic approach to the shifting American market and his plans for the company’s AI integration in a conversation with Beauty Inc. The interview marked the completion of his first 100 days in office on May 26, 2026.

In the interview, Perakis-Valat drew upon past digital revolutions he has been a part of, particularly the e-commerce revolution in China in 2010.

“It was exactly the moment when e-commerce exploded, and it was fascinating. Two things I took away involve the human adventure, because you have to make HR decisions based on skills, not experience or job titles. We had no seasoned e-commerce experts in the market, so you couldn’t just post a job opening. You had to look within your own teams,” he told Fine.

Perakis-Valat’s AI Aspirations

The CEO views the company’s integration efforts in three chapters. The first chapter focuses on AI-powered consumer journeys, highlighted by the launch of a beauty assistant. The second chapter centers on AI-powered functions, which he refers to as "metiers," aiming to empower the company’s marketing teams. The third chapter focuses on AI-powered employees. The company is reportedly hosting internal competitions utilizing LLM-agnostic tools, according to Beauty Inc.

“What we did is focus a lot on innovation; we focused on new markets. We worked a lot on emerging markets, and I went to Indonesia, Brazil, and Latin America. It’s a part of my job I love, because I love discovering new cultures, and it’s about discovering how cultural beauty is,” Perakis-Valat said.

Prior to leading L’Oréal USA, he ran the global Consumer Products Division, managing key brands like L’Oréal Paris, Garnier, and Maybelline New York.

L'Oréal USA is accelerating its AI integration through major partnerships, focusing on predictive R&D and agentic AI consumer tools. Recently, on May 17, 2026, the company signed a partnership with Nvidia to accelerate beauty discovery powered by predictive AI science. Previously, it partnered with IBM to build its first AI model to advance the creation of sustainable cosmetics.
